auld lang syne.

We keep it pretty simple on New Years, even before we had a kiddo.
We don't drink, so we don't go to any big party or anything.
We typically chow down on (un)healthy food & watch the ball drop on tv, while playing poker & other card games. (for no money).

I know, we do it big!

This year, my mom had us over for appetizers & games.  We put Aubrey in her pack n play to sleep, & she started screaming.  Nothing would calm her or make her want to go back in, so we ended up taking her home after eating.  She fell right asleep in her crib.

Steve & I toasted sparkling cider, played a few games, & watched fell asleep before the ball dropped on tv. We still had a New Year's kiss about 11:00.  It was midnight SOMEWHERE right? :)

As we watched the Rockin' New Year's Eve on tv & watched people get wasted before the ball dropped, we laughed about how we are in our young twenties, but can't make it to midnight before falling asleep, how we prefer to snuggle up on the couch than go out to a big fancy party, & have no idea what being wasted even feels like.  We might be old souls, but I kind of love it.  We'll never need any substance to have a good time.  We have each other & our little girl, & we'll be "love drunk" off that for years to come..(no hangover either!)

Although our New Years was low key, we brought in the new year with grateful hearts from what 2011 has brought us, & look forward to what's to come in 2012!

Hope you all had a happy & safe New Years.

  1. I absolutely love this post because we're the exact same! We had my fiancé's family down, played a lot of Yahtzee while watching the NYE specials, and didn't partake in the champagne toast. We're 22 going on 80, but like you, I prefer it that way!

    Happy New Year! :)

  5. I love this! This sounds EXACTLY like my hubby and me. We had pizza with our parents while watching some basketball, then cuddled on the couch while the baby slept and we barely made it to the ball drop, and by 12:03 we were in bed!

  6. We did the exact same thing! For the past couple years we've had a really low key NYE just because neither of us are "party goers." this year we knew that even if we were to go to a relatives house Nicolas would not go to sleep just like Aubrey..he is so use to his bed that he can't get comfortable enough to go to bed anywhere else.
